Day 2 – Life in a Tea Garden
Begin the morning with a nature walk through the tea estate.
Walk along the manicured rows of tea bushes and experience the sights, sounds and changing landscape of a working tea plantation. Your guide can introduce you to the tea plant, seasonal changes, estate ecology and the daily rhythm of tea cultivation.
Continue to a tea-leaf plucking area and observe tea workers carefully selecting the tender leaves and buds that form the foundation of quality Assam tea.
Depending on the season and estate operations, you may have an opportunity to understand or participate in the traditional plucking process.
After lunch, proceed to Tocklai Tea Research Institute, one of the world's historic centres of tea research, established in 1910.
Explore the institution's contribution to tea research and learn about the science behind tea cultivation, plant improvement, pests and diseases, processing and other aspects of the tea industry.
Return to your heritage bungalow in the evening.
Overnight: Chang Bungalow / Heritage Tea Bungalow
Day 3 – From Leaf to Cup
Today is dedicated to understanding what happens to the tea leaf after it leaves the garden.
Visit a working tea factory and follow the journey of freshly harvested tea leaves through the various stages of manufacture.
Depending on the factory and season, your experience may include an introduction to:
Withering *Rolling *CTC or orthodox processing *Oxidation
Drying *Sorting and grading *Packing
This provides an opportunity to understand the intricacies of tea manufacturing and appreciate how careful processing influences the character, aroma, colour and flavour of the finished tea.
In the afternoon, take part in a specially arranged tea tasting session.
Learn how tea professionals examine the appearance, aroma, liquor, flavour and finish of different teas. Sample different varieties and grades of Assam tea and discover how growing conditions and manufacturing techniques influence the final cup.
The experience concludes with a deeper appreciation of Assam tea — not simply as a beverage, but as a product shaped by soil, climate, cultivation, craftsmanship and generations of tea-making knowledge.
Return to your heritage bungalow and enjoy your final evening amidst the tea gardens and enjoy the Tea Tribes cultural performance of Jhumur dance.
