Detailed TOUR ITINERARY

Meghalaya is more than scenic hills and waterfalls. This journey combines trekking, caves, living root bridges, waterfalls, river landscapes and Khasi village experiences in one carefully planned itinerary. 

Day 1 — Guwahati to Shillong

Arrive at Guwahati and drive to Shillong, the picturesque capital of Meghalaya.

En route, visit Umiam Lake, surrounded by rolling hills and pine forests.

On arrival in Shillong, check in at the hotel and relax.

Overnight: Shillong

Day 2 — Shillong Exploration & Nature

After breakfast, explore Shillong and its surrounding attractions.

Visit selected attractions such as:

• Shillong Peak

• Elephant Falls

• Ward’s Lake

• Don Bosco Museum

• Local markets and viewpoints

The day can be adjusted according to the interests and pace of the travellers.

Overnight: Shillong

Day 3 — Shillong to Sohra (Cherrapunji)

After breakfast, drive towards Sohra (Cherrapunji) through the spectacular landscapes of the Khasi Hills.

En route and around Sohra, visit some of Meghalaya’s iconic natural attractions, depending on weather and accessibility:

• Mawkdok Dympep Valley

• Nohkalikai Falls

• Seven Sisters Falls

• Mawsmai Cave

• Eco Park / viewpoints

Meghalaya's official tourism information identifies Sohra/Cherrapunji as a major destination for waterfalls, caves and trekking experiences.

Overnight: Sohra

Day 4 — Nongriat Living Root Bridge Trek

Today is the adventure highlight of the tour.

After an early breakfast, proceed towards Tyrna and begin the trek to Nongriat, home to the famous Double-Decker Living Root Bridge.

The trek takes you through dense forest, streams and traditional Khasi landscapes. The route involves a substantial descent and ascent, so a good level of physical fitness is recommended.

Travellers who prefer a shorter experience may choose an easier alternative depending on local conditions.

The Double-Decker Living Root Bridge is one of Meghalaya's signature trekking experiences; Incredible India describes the Nongriat route as involving roughly 3,500 steps through forest and across streams.

Return to Sohra after the trek.

Overnight: Sohra

Day 5 — Sohra to Dawki & Shnongpdeng

After breakfast, drive towards Dawki through the beautiful Jaintia Hills.

Arrive at Dawki, located near the India–Bangladesh border, and experience the famous Umngot River.

Continue to Shnongpdeng, where travellers can enjoy optional activities such as:

• Boating

• Kayaking

• River activities

• Photography

• Riverside relaxation

Activities are subject to weather, river conditions and local operational availability.

The Meghalaya Tourism Department highlights Dawki, Shnongpdeng and the Umngot River for scenic river experiences and outdoor activities.

Overnight: Dawki / Shnongpdeng

Day 6 — Dawki • Mawlynnong • Shillong

After breakfast, proceed towards Mawlynnong, one of Meghalaya's best-known village destinations.

Explore:

• Mawlynnong village

• Nohwet Living Root Bridge

• Sky View Point

• Traditional Khasi village surroundings

The living root bridges are a remarkable example of indigenous Khasi ecological knowledge, created by guiding the roots of Ficus elastica trees over streams and allowing them to strengthen over generations.

Continue to Shillong.

Overnight: Shillong

Day 7 — Shillong to Guwahati

After breakfast, drive from Shillong to Guwahati.

Depending on the departure time, there may be an opportunity for a short stop at a suitable attraction or viewpoint en route.

Transfer to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for onward journey.

Tour ends with unforgettable memories of Meghalaya's forests, waterfalls, living root bridges, rivers and Khasi culture.
