Day 2 – Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary & Brahmaputra Wetlands
Begin the day with an early start for Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, a relatively small but remarkably biodiverse forest in Upper Assam.
Enjoy a guided nature hike through the sanctuary, exploring its dense forest habitat and observing the rich variety of flora and fauna. The sanctuary is particularly known for its population of hoolock gibbons, India's only ape species, along with other primates, birds, butterflies and forest wildlife.
The walk provides an opportunity to appreciate Assam's forest ecosystems at a slower pace, with your guide helping you understand the plants, animals and ecological relationships of the area.
Return for lunch and some time to relax.
Later, travel towards one of the region's important birding areas along the Brahmaputra shore and associated backwaters.
The combination of river channels, wetlands, sandbars, grasslands and backwaters creates an excellent habitat for a variety of resident and migratory birds.
Spend the afternoon walking and observing birds in their natural surroundings. Depending on the season and water conditions, you may encounter different species of waterbirds, waders, raptors and other riverine birds.
As the afternoon light softens over the Brahmaputra, enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings before returning to Jorhat.
Overnight: Jorhat
Day 3 – Syamgaon
After breakfast, set out to explore Syamgaon, a historic village offering a very different perspective of Assam.
Away from the major tourist attractions, Syamgaon is known for its peaceful rural environment and Buddhist cultural traditions. The visit provides an opportunity to experience the rhythms of village life and understand a lesser-known cultural layer of Assam.
Walk through the village and observe the surrounding landscape, traditional ways of life and local community practices. Depending on local arrangements, interact with members of the community and learn about the village's Buddhist heritage and traditions.
The experience is intentionally unhurried — allowing you to appreciate the tranquillity, simplicity and cultural character of rural Assam.
Return to Jorhat later in the day.
Spend the evening at leisure at your hotel or resort.
