Best Time for an Assam Meghalaya Tour

October to April is generally suitable for combining wildlife experiences in Assam with Meghalaya sightseeing, although conditions vary by destination and season.

November to February can be particularly attractive for travellers looking for cooler conditions and wildlife experiences.

March to May can be rewarding for nature, wildlife and tea-related journeys.

June to September brings Meghalaya's famous monsoon landscapes, but heavy rainfall can affect road conditions and sightseeing. Some attractions may also be seasonally inaccessible.

Day 1 — Arrival in Guwahati

Arrive in Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast India.

Meet your private driver and begin your journey into Assam. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit selected attractions in and around Guwahati before proceeding towards your overnight destination.

Day 2 — Guwahati to Kaziranga National Park

Travel from Guwahati towards Kaziranga National Park, one of Northeast India’s most important wildlife destinations.

The journey takes you through changing landscapes of Assam, including rural settlements, wetlands, agricultural areas and tea-growing country.

Arrive at Kaziranga and relax at your accommodation.

Day 3 — Kaziranga Wildlife Safari

Begin the day with a wildlife safari in Kaziranga.

The park is internationally known for its population of the greater one-horned rhinoceros, while its diverse habitats also support elephants, wild buffalo, deer and numerous bird species.

Day 4 — Kaziranga to Shillong

After breakfast, begin your journey towards Meghalaya.

Created over generations by Khasi communities using the roots of rubber fig trees, these remarkable structures demonstrate a traditional relationship between people and the forest.

The walking experience can be tailored according to your fitness level and interests.

Day 8 — Dawki & Mawlynnong

Continue towards the eastern part of Meghalaya.

Visit Dawki, situated close to the India–Bangladesh border and known for the Umngot River and its exceptionally clear waters during suitable seasonal conditions.

Continue towards Mawlynnong, where village landscapes and Khasi traditions provide another perspective on rural Meghalaya.

Return towards Shillong or stay in the surrounding region depending on the itinerary.

Day 9 — Shillong to Guwahati

After breakfast, travel back towards Guwahati.

Depending on your departure schedule, there may be time for additional sightseeing or shopping before your journey concludes.
