DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1 — ARRIVAL AT JORHAT | WELCOME TO ASSAM

Arrival: Jorhat Airport

Arrive at Jorhat, the cultural and tea capital of Upper Assam. Meet your Assam Discovery representative and transfer to your hotel.

After check-in and some rest, the evening can be kept relaxed. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity for a short orientation of Jorhat or a leisurely walk around the local area.

Jorhat is an excellent starting point for exploring Assam's tea country, Ahom heritage and the nearby Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary and Majuli.

DAY 2 — GIBBON WILDLIFE SANCTUARY & ASSAM TEA EXPERIENCE

Early Morning Wildlife Walk & Tea Country

Start early for an immersive wildlife experience at Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, one of Assam's important primate habitats.

The morning excursion is particularly rewarding for wildlife and nature enthusiasts. With an experienced local guide, explore the forest trails and look for species such as the Hoolock Gibbon, India's only ape, along with other primates and forest birds.

After the forest experience, continue into Assam's famous tea country.

Visit a tea estate to understand the journey of Assam tea — from the tea bushes and plucking practices to processing and tasting. Depending on the season and estate operations, the experience may include a guided garden walk and tea tasting.

The day offers a fascinating contrast between wild Assam's forests and its world-famous tea landscapes.

DAY 3 — SIVASAGAR & CHARAIDEO MAIDAMS

Journey into the Ahom Kingdom

Today explores the historic legacy of the Ahom Kingdom, which ruled Assam for several centuries.

Travel towards Sivasagar, the historic capital of the Ahom rulers.

Explore important heritage landmarks including:

• Sivadol

• Rang Ghar

• Talatal Ghar

• Historic tanks and Ahom-era monuments

Continue towards Charaideo, the original royal centre of the Ahom dynasty and famous for its Maidams, the royal burial mounds of the Ahom kings and nobles.

The landscape and monuments provide an opportunity to understand one of Assam's most important historical periods.

Return to Jorhat after sightseeing.

DAY 4 — JORHAT TO MAJULI | ISLAND & CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

After breakfast, travel towards Majuli, one of the world's most distinctive river-island cultural landscapes.

Cross the Brahmaputra by ferry and arrive on Majuli.

The island is renowned for its Vaishnavite Satras, indigenous communities, mask-making traditions, rural landscapes and Mishing culture.

Visit selected Satras and interact with local communities where possible.

Depending on the day's schedule, experiences may include:

• Mishing village life

• Traditional Assamese cuisine

The evening offers an opportunity to experience Majuli's peaceful countryside.

DAY 5 — MAJULI EXPLORATION & RETURN TO JORHAT

Continue exploring Majuli after breakfast.

Depending on local conditions and interests, visit additional cultural sites and villages.

There will be time to experience the slower rhythm of island life, photograph rural landscapes and learn more about the traditional culture of Majuli.

Later, take the ferry back across the Brahmaputra and continue to Jorhat.

DAY 6 — JORHAT TO KOHIMA | INTO NAGALAND

After breakfast, depart Jorhat for Kohima, the capital of Nagaland.

The journey gradually changes from Assam's plains into the forested hills of Nagaland.

On arrival in Kohima, check into the hotel and relax.

If time permits, take a short evening walk or explore the local surroundings.

DAY 7 — KOHIMA HERITAGE, WWII HISTORY & KISAMA

History & Naga Cultural Heritage

Begin the day with a visit to the Kohima War Cemetery, an important World War II memorial associated with the Battle of Kohima.

Continue exploring Kohima and its cultural heritage.

Later visit Kisama Heritage Village, the cultural centre associated with Nagaland's traditional tribes and the Hornbill Festival.

Explore traditional Naga architectural styles, village structures and cultural displays.

The day provides an introduction to Nagaland's complex tribal heritage and history.

DAY 8 — DZUKOU VALLEY DAY TREK

Into Nagaland's Mountain Wilderness

Today is dedicated to a full-day excursion to the spectacular Dzukou Valley.

Start early and travel towards the trekking point. The trek takes you through forest and mountain terrain towards the valley.

Dzukou is known for its rolling green landscapes, seasonal flowers, dramatic ridges and relatively untouched mountain environment.

Spend time exploring the valley and enjoying panoramic Himalayan/Naga mountain scenery before returning towards Kohima.

This is the most physically active day of the Nagaland section, so appropriate footwear, drinking water and reasonable fitness are recommended.

DAY 9 — KISAMA / KOHIMA → KHONOMA → KAZIRANGA

Naga Village Heritage to Assam Wildlife Country

After breakfast, depart towards Khonoma, a historic Angami Naga village surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes.

Explore the village's traditional architecture, agricultural landscapes, community heritage and distinctive cultural character.

Khonoma provides a more intimate village experience compared with the larger cultural displays at Kisama.

Later continue towards Assam and Kaziranga National Park.

Arrive at Kaziranga and check into your wildlife lodge.

DAY 10 — KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK & ORCHID GARDEN

Wildlife Safari & Northeast India's Floral Diversity

Begin the morning with a jeep safari in Kaziranga National Park.

The park is renowned for its population of the greater one-horned rhinoceros, while wildlife sightings may also include elephants, wild buffalo, deer, wild boar and numerous bird species.

Return to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation.

Later visit the Kaziranga Orchid and Biodiversity Park, where you can learn about orchids and the rich plant diversity of Northeast India.

Depending on interest and available time, the visit can also include cultural presentations and other attractions at the park.

DAY 11 — KAZIRANGA → BOMDILA | ENTER ARUNACHAL PRADESH

Depart Kaziranga after breakfast and travel towards Arunachal Pradesh.

Cross towards Bhalukpong, the gateway to Arunachal Pradesh, and continue through increasingly mountainous landscapes.

En route, visit the Tippi Orchid Research Centre, subject to opening hours and operational conditions.

Continue uphill towards Bomdila.

The landscape changes dramatically from Assam's plains to forested Himalayan foothills.

Arrive in Bomdila and check into your hotel.

DAY 12 — BOMDILA → TAWANG | HIMALAYAN JOURNEY

After breakfast, begin one of the most scenic road journeys of the expedition.

Travel towards Tawang through the spectacular Himalayan landscape.

Depending on road and weather conditions, the journey may include viewpoints and important mountain landmarks along the route.

The road climbs through high-altitude terrain, with changing vegetation and dramatic mountain scenery.

Continue towards Tawang, one of Arunachal Pradesh's most remarkable Himalayan destinations.

Arrive and check into the hotel.

DAY 13 — TAWANG → BUMLA EXCURSION

High-Altitude Himalayan Experience

Today is dedicated to an excursion towards Bumla, subject to local road, weather and permit conditions.

Travel through the dramatic high-altitude landscape surrounding Tawang.

The excursion offers opportunities for:

Return to Tawang later in the day.

DAY 14 — TAWANG LOCAL SIGHTSEEING

Today explore the cultural and historical heart of Tawang.

Tawang Monastery

One of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas and a major centre of Monpa Buddhist culture.

Tawang War Memorial

Pay tribute to the soldiers who served during the 1962 India-China conflict.

Chakzam Bridge

Visit the historic iron-chain bridge associated with the region's traditional engineering heritage.

Allow time for local exploration and photography around Tawang.

DAY 15 — TAWANG → DIRANG

Descending Through Himalayan Landscapes

After breakfast, begin the journey from Tawang towards Dirang.

Depending on time and road conditions, selected local attractions can be visited en route.

Arrive in Dirang and check into your hotel.

The evening can be spent relaxing and enjoying the mountain environment.

DAY 16 — DIRANG → TEZPUR

From the Himalayas Back to Assam

On arrival in Tezpur, depending on time, explore selected attractions and enjoy the Brahmaputra-side environment.

Explore the river and surrounding landscapes, followed by a visit to Mawlynnong, renowned for its village environment and surrounding natural scenery.

Depending on season, weather and local conditions, river activities may be available.

Return to Shillong.
