Detailed Itinerary -  5 Nights / 6 Days  |  Meghalaya Photography & Living Root Bridge Tour

Day 1 — Guwahati to Shillong

Arrive at Guwahati and drive towards Shillong, the picturesque capital of Meghalaya.

En route, stop at Umiam Lake, where the surrounding hills and expansive waters provide an excellent introduction to Meghalaya's landscapes.

Continue to Shillong and check in at your hotel.

Depending on arrival time, explore selected viewpoints or the local surroundings during the late afternoon.

Photography Focus: Umiam Lake, mountain landscapes, evening light and Shillong cityscapes.

Overnight: Shillong

📅 Day 2 — Shillong to Sohra | Waterfalls & Landscapes

After breakfast, drive towards Sohra (Cherrapunji) through the spectacular Khasi Hills.

The journey provides numerous opportunities for landscape photography. Visit selected attractions such as:

• Mawkdok Dympep Valley

• Nohkalikai Falls

• Seven Sisters Falls

• Mawsmai Cave

• Eco Park and surrounding viewpoints

The itinerary can be adjusted according to weather, visibility and photography conditions.

During suitable weather, the late afternoon can be used for additional landscape photography around Sohra.

Photography Focus: Valleys, waterfalls, clouds, mist, rock formations and changing mountain light.

Overnight: Sohra

📅 Day 3 — Nongriat | The Living Root Bridge Experience

Today is the signature experience of the journey.

After an early breakfast, proceed towards Tyrna, from where the trek to Nongriat begins.

Walk through dense tropical vegetation, traditional Khasi landscapes and natural streams towards the famous Double-Decker Living Root Bridge.

The living root bridges are extraordinary examples of traditional Khasi knowledge, where tree roots are guided and shaped over many years to create naturally living bridges.

Allow time to explore and photograph the bridge, surrounding forest, streams and village environment before returning to Sohra.

Photography Focus: Living root architecture, rainforest, streams, textures, people and environmental storytelling.

Important: The Nongriat trek involves steep steps and considerable walking. A good level of physical fitness is recommended.

Overnight: Sohra

📅 Day 4 — Sohra to Mawlynnong | Villages & Living Root Bridges

After breakfast, proceed towards Mawlynnong.

Explore the village and its surrounding landscapes, with opportunities to photograph traditional Khasi architecture, village life and the natural environment.

Visit the Nohwet Living Root Bridge and explore the surrounding forest and village trails.

The day can be kept flexible to allow sufficient time for photography rather than rushing between attractions.

Photography Focus: Village life, traditional architecture, living root bridges, forests, people and rural landscapes.

Continue towards Dawki/Shnongpdeng.

Overnight: Dawki / Shnongpdeng

📅 Day 5 — Dawki & Shnongpdeng | River & Mountain Photography

Wake up early for the opportunity to capture the morning landscape around the Umngot River.

Explore Dawki and Shnongpdeng, where the clear river, surrounding hills and traditional boats create excellent photography opportunities.

Depending on weather, river conditions and local availability, optional activities may include:

• Boating

• Kayaking

• Riverside exploration

• Photography walks

The remainder of the day can be used for landscape and cultural photography around the river and surrounding villages.

Photography Focus: River landscapes, reflections, boats, mountains, village life and changing natural light.

Overnight: Dawki / Shnongpdeng

📅 Day 6 — Dawki to Guwahati | Departure

After breakfast, begin the journey towards Guwahati.

Depending on the departure schedule, additional photography stops may be possible along the way.

Proceed to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey.

Tour ends with a collection of photographs and memories from the landscapes, people and living heritage of Meghalaya.
